This site is run by Edwin Schofield, based in the United Kingdom. It’s a personal journal. I collect as little data as possible.
What I collect
Analytics. This site uses Google Analytics (via Google’s Site Kit) to show me anonymous information about visits: which pages are read, roughly where visitors come from, and what device they use. This involves cookies, which is why you see the consent banner. I use this only to understand what people read. You can decline analytics cookies in the banner and the site works exactly the same.
Subscriptions. If you subscribe to new posts by email, your email address is used to send you each new post and nothing else. There is no newsletter and no marketing. Subscriptions are processed by WordPress (Jetpack), and every email includes an unsubscribe link. If you subscribe by RSS instead, I hold no data about you at all.
Email. If you email me, I keep the correspondence like any normal email.
Server logs. Like almost every website, my hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP addresses, pages requested) for security purposes, retained for a short period.
What I don’t do
I don’t sell or share your data with anyone. There’s no advertising on this site, no tracking pixels from social networks, and no marketing emails.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask me what data I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Email me at contact@edwinschofield.com and I’ll sort it. If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
Third parties
Google’s processing of analytics data is covered by Google’s own privacy policy. Subscription emails are handled by WordPress (Jetpack), covered by Automattic’s privacy policy.
